Carolina Decore and More

I was invited to participate in a new upscale business in Surf City, which had a 'soft opening' May 13th, with the Grand Opening after Memorial Day.  This is Carolina Decor and More

I was to determine which style of "booth" would work for me, so I chose to secure a Wall, instead of a bookcase or a booth, to display my wearable glass art for sale.  Next, I decided on and located fixtures to prepare the wall for service, choosing slatwall and other hardware to upfit it.

If you know me, you know I don't like to pay full price for anything, and fortunately, my local "Displays store" had a sheet (several) of USED slatwall, already painted!  Not a thing wrong with it, either.

I employed (or would that be implored) my macho man to cut and hang the slatwall.  He even measured and cut out for the light switch and outlet, and after all the fuss of MIA studs to screw to, we wound up with a perfect display.

I had to order special necks to hang (at a bargain!), but in the mean time, I bought some local (again sale priced) slatwall acrylic shelves and placed a few small busts on them.  At least I'm in!

My new necks and busts (and other goodies) arrived over the weekend, so I'll be set for the Grand Opening!  Updated photo will follow.

Stop by and see everything the store has to offer ~ you won't be disappointed!

A Rosey Deal

Ok, so I'm a flower freak ~ they have dominated the last several blog posts...and my yard.

As you probably know, I have a booth at 2 of the local Farmers' Markets and they're in full swing now!

My vendor buddy, David, had some amazing miniature roses for sale last weekend at

I took advantage of his lovely offerings, and the price is unbeatable!

He'll have more at Poplar Grove Farmers' Market on Wednesday; the hours are 8 a.m. - 1p.m., but better get there early, these will go fast!

While you're picking up roses, stop by my booth to see what's new!

This one is "Amber Waves"

The Scents of Flower Power

Long ago and far away...or is it "far out man"?  Right on!  A child of the 60's, this 1963 Beetle was my first car (and old when I bought it), already painted up.  You'll never guess what I paid for it.

Ahhh....I can still remember the powerful smell of this vintage VW Bug...it filled the senses!

I drove this puppy to school my senior year ~ many mornings I had to "push it off" to start it - by myself - jumping in and popping the clutch.  No easy task, because I lived at the beach and had to push it in sand!

Unfortunately, above is the only photo I have of this relic, but on the front and driver side, there are peace signs, butterflies, and flowers.

Speaking of which...I heard the call of some bedding flowers that I had purchased last week, begging to be put in the ground...so I took a break from torching glass to venture outside into perfect weather.

Hubby came home from helping a friend, and tilled up my round bed at the birdbath (after I raked up the winter pine needles, heh).

I played in the dirt awhile, moving plants here and there until I was semi-happy with it, enjoying the flower scents.  Once they spread and fill out, it'll be a glorious show.  So let's have show and tell of what I planted:

 Yellow and rosy portulaca

 yellow and pink lantana

double impatience in cherry and silhouette purple

petunias ~ purple of course

purple tops, long stems (um, I've forgotten what they're called)

1 yellow dahlia, 1 orangy-coraly dahlia

red begonias, pink begonias (with the bright green leaves, not the olive-y green)

white impatiens

2 coleuses in gorgeous variegated green and deep pink

Can hardly wait to see everything propagate and fill in.  The power of flowers, such beautiful sight and smell all around ~ it fills the senses.

Unexpected Awards

Wow!  Freda at The Adventures of the Empress of the Universe - Impera Magna has chosen to honor me with the Versatile Blogger Award!  I met Freda when I was in my late teens, and we have just recently reconnected in Blogger-world.  She's the top notch quilting queen!

There are a few rules to receiving the award:

Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them.

  •  What a joy to reconnect with you Freda ~ you're amazing, and I thank you for this honor.

  • Tell 7 things about yourself that others might not know about you.

    1.  My family lineage has been traced as far back as the mid 1400's.
    2.  While I like fresh strawberries, I don't like anything else strawberry.
    3.  When I was little, I thought dogs were married to cats (dogs were 'boys', cats were 'girls').  Maybe I related it to the phrase "fighting like cats and dogs", lol.
    4.  My favorite pickle:  "Grape leaf" pickle, which I now make every summer, just like both of my grannies used to.  Paired up with a minner cheese sammich, it's the bomb diggity!
    5.  I lived in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia for 6 years with my sweetie and our 2 sons; I especially enjoy singing Russian folk songs and worship songs.
    6.  Did I say I love to sing?  Also play guitar, piano, and flute; my parents gave me a minstrel's harp several years ago, and I really need to learn it.
    7.  Five for fighting is a very favorite music CD (video below)

And now to award my new Blogger friends:

Sabrina at Prayer Tracking, Random Thoughts and Yarn Sabrina is my cousin, and we grew up making memories together...many good times, and we haven't quit!  She is an excellent artist and afghan maker.

Andrew at HalfKoreanSpanishLovingAmerican ~ is a friend of the family and buddy of my son; we've known him since he was just a little shaver.  Andrew is a whiz at everything he attempts.

Rebecca at Rebecca ~ is another long time friend's daughter.  Her mother and I have shared many a laugh and a tear raising our children, and now it's a joy to see Rebecca raising her children.

Marcy at Studio Marcy ~ I met Marcy several years ago at a Glass Workshop in the mountains of NC.  She is generous with her knowledge and makes adorable whimsical glass sculptures.  Oh, and a delightful roomie too.
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I couldn't resist showing these peonies...I didn't grow them, but received them in trade!

There will be a 5 second commercial at the beginning, but the video makes up for it!
